Grumpy Cat is name given to an image of a rather grumpy looking snowshoe cat taken on September 23, 2012. The cat is also called "Tard", (short for Tardar Sauce.) The captions of Grumpy Cat often depict depressing or hateful comments.
Origin
On September 23, 2012, Tabatha Bundesen's brother posted pictures of Tardar to /r/pics subreddit. The post was instantly met with different photoshopped versions of the original pictures, along with captioned images of Tardar. Later, Tabatha's brother uploaded 3 different clips of Tardar playing indoors.
Trivia
- There has been some talk for creating a Grumpy Cat movie, in a similar Garfield-like style.
- Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book will be released on October 15, 2013 by Chronicle Books.
